Son ridicules ‘bad’ Mourinho rumours as he explains Tottenham slump

Heung-min Son has laughed off as “bad rumours” speculation that Jose Mourinho has lost the dressing room at Tottenham.

Spurs topped the Premier League table after 12 games this season. However, a run of just 12 points from their most recent 12 games has seen the side tumble down the league. Indeed, they now look in serious danger of missing a top-four finish. They also recently crashed out of the FA Cup after a crazy game at Everton.

That run of form has led to serious questions over his long-term prospects of ending the club’s long trophy drought. There have also been accusations thrown around that Mourinho has lost the dressing room amid talk he could face the sack.

However, Son has been quick to dismiss the claims and insists the Spurs squad remain united.

“The rumour is just rumours. Our dressing room is fantastic. It’s just about results,” he said. “We’re happy if we win and sad if we lose. The dressing room has not changed though. Everyone is happy and focused on the games ahead. What can I say, that’s a bad rumour.”

Asked why Tottenham had fallen off the pace in the Premier League, Son insists it is the players who must take the blame.

“It’s obviously also the player’s responsibilty,” he said. “We have a conversation as players and we know we can do better. It’s very sad that in the league we dropped points when we had the opportunity to win.

“But football is not that easy and you have to concentrate until the final whistle. When you don’t win the mood is down but the players want to fight until the end. The season changes so quick. We were top of the table and two weeks after that it’s another team. Things change so quick. We have to be focused and we have to be positive.”

Son tells Tottenham to take responsibility

As such, Tottenham’s Europa League campaign, which resumes this week, now takes on enormous significance for Tottenham. Spurs travel to Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in the first leg of their round of 32 game on Thursday.

Ahead of the match, Son insists the Spurs squad are focused on turning their form around

“It’s not only the gaffer who wants to win. The players have to take the responsibility,” he added. ” know he’s a winner but it’s all about the players as well. We have to take all the responsibility on the pitch. The gaffer tells us what to do and we have to take responsibility.

“We dropped some points in the Premier League and we’re out of the FA Cup. If you think about that then it’s negative but we’re in the Europa League and in the final of the Carabao Cup. We go there with good energy.”
