Klopp wants Liverpool to finally land Brazilian forward as €50m price is set

Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, who could be allowed to leave the Bernabeu this summer, according to reports.

It has been a tough season for Liverpool, who have struggled to defend their Premier League title.

Currently 19 points behind leaders Manchester City, one of the key issues Liverpool have had to deal with is their attacking department becoming less clinical.

Diogo Jota began his Liverpool career in stunning form after his summer move, putting pressure on the tried-and-tested front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The Portuguese forward is now nearing a return from an injury. His absence has coincided with Liverpool uncharacteristically struggling up front.

As their attention begins to drift towards next season, Liverpool are already planning for the future. They have been linked with a number of reinforcements who could help them mount a stronger title challenge next year.

Having bolstered their defence in January to cover for a number of absentees in that area, they could be tempted to spend on attacking targets in the summer.

One potential target is Rodrygo, according to Diario Gol. The winger arrived at Real Madrid with big potential in 2019, but is yet to really fulfil it.

This season, a combination of injuries and competition for places has restricted him to just four La Liga starts. Respectably, he has still managed to provide four assists.

However, Madrid would have been hoping to get more out of him. And with financial pressures, they may have a decision to make in the summer.

With that in mind, the report claims that Madrid could sell Rodrygo for a fee of around £50m. How much Liverpool would be willing to pay remains to be seen, but it is claimed that Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer.

So too, though, is Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. But he may be overpowered by his superiors if they need to raise funds.

That could present Liverpool with an opportunity to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian as an investment for the future.

Rodrygo a long-term target

This is not the first time Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo. In fact, they have been close to signing him before.

One of his former coaches revealed in 2019 that the Reds fell short financially when trying to sign him.

“There was a period when there was very strong interest from Liverpool for him to leave when he was still at base,” former Santos coach Elano told ESPN.

“The values were very low, but they wanted to have a go. Real’s offer afterwards was around €30m more! I had a conversation with the staff and said the boy was worth the bet.”
