Inter Milan line-up surprise raid on Liverpool for fringe Anfield star

Divock Origi; Takumi Minamino TEAMtalk

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly lining up a surprise move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi this summer.

The 25-year-old forward has struggled for game time again this season, making just two Premier League starts. His hopes of action have been futher hampered by the return to fitness of Diogo Jota – who has jumped straight in to the XI in recent games. Jota has benefitted from Roberto Firmino’s absence, leaving Origi to once again settle for a bench spot.

Relegation threatened Newcastle were recently linked with a move for the Belgian, who looks certain to quit Anfield.

But according to Italian outlet Calciomercato Inter are ready to try and tempt the Reds into a summer sale.

The San Siro outfit already have attacking trio Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez on their books. However, Inter boss Antonio Conte is said to be a big fan of Origi and wants him in Milan.

Origi has earned cult status on Merseyside for his Champions League heroics against Barcelona and in the final against Tottenham in 2019.

The report does not state the sort of fee Liverpool would demand for the forward, who is under contract until 2024.

However, if Jurgen Klopp’s men miss out on Champions League football for next season, then there is a strong chance Origi will be sold.

The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino could also be moved on. Doubts also remain over the long-term future of leading marksman Mo Salah, as Real Madrid weigh-up a summer offer.

Doku counting on Liverpool return

Jeremy Doku insists he has no regrets about not joining Liverpool when he was an academy player – but hopes they still possess an interest.

Doku is currently in his first season with Rennes, whom he joined from Anderlecht. During his days with the Belgian club, he held talks over a possible move to Liverpool.

Aged 15 at the time, he would have gone into their academy setup with a plan to reach the first team one day. However, no agreement was reached and he has begun to fulfil his potential elsewhere.

Liverpool have not lost sight of him, though. Reports last year suggested the Premier League champions were still interested and wanted to sign him before he joined Rennes.

Now, the winger is keen to prove himself and wonders if Liverpool may return for him later down the line.

“If I regret? I have said no all the time,” he told Ouest France of his previous move to Liverpool not going through.

“If Liverpool came for me at 15, if they like me, they will come back later that is for sure.

“It is up to me to be good.”
