Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is being tipped to secure the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, with Toffees chiefs prepared to sanction the mega transfer.
The Napoli defender is regarded as one of the world’s elite centre-halves. The Senegalese star has been strongly linked with Manchester United and Liverpool over recent years. However, Napoli’s stringent £89m asking price has scared off those would-be suitors.
However, reports this week have stated Everton are ready to make their move this summer. Now 29, Koulibaly is at the prime of his career.
Ancelotti worked with Koulibaly during his stint as the head coach, and naturally had a big role for the former Metz man.
Now, the Italian coach believes he needs a world-class centre-back to elevate Everton further up the table. Koulibaly, it’s claimed, is said to be well on his mind.
Napoli still have a high asking price for their star man, but Ancelotti has been reassured by Everton’s owners that he will have funds to spend in the transfer market.
Indeed, journalist Alex Crook claims there is a feeling around Everton that Ancelotti will be backed this summer. Furthermore, and with regards Koulibaly, he states the Italian ‘wants to get it done’.
“Koulibaly is in the news but definite interest and genuine interest from Everton,” Crook told talkSPORT. “Sounds like Carlo Ancelotti is going to be backed this summer.
“I think they’re just going to fall short this season in terms of a Champions League place. But they believe they’ve got the right manager in place in Ancelotti to challenge at that kind of level. Right now, at this moment in time, they’ve not got the squad depth to do so.
“Koulibaly is someone that Ancelotti worked with at Napoli, knows him well, £89m was the fee being talked about this time last year.
“I think given the global economy when it comes to football, that fee would be dramatically reduced now. But I think Ancelotti would like to get this deal done.”
Everton learn Lucas Vazquez costs
The Toffees, meanwhile, have learned how much it will cost to sign departing Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez this summer.
Vazquez, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season. He has rejected the offer of a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu as it doesn’t meet his wage demands.
Vazquez is one of Madrid’s lowest earners despite being a prominent player for a number of seasons. He has made 22 LaLiga appearances so far this campaign.
He has played the majority of his career in a right attacking position. But Zinedine Zidane has utilised him at right-back in recent months.
The Spaniard is said to be demanding a figure of €3million a year after tax, which has not yet been offered to him. That salary, it’s claimed, could tempt the Toffees to consider an approach.
